in Kannawa

Kannawa is one of the eight Beppu hot spring villages commonly known as one of Japan's greatest hot spring resorts since the ancient time. The epic view of rising steam is the symbol of Beppu Onsen. The townscape retains the remnants of the past is somewhat nostalgic and tasteful. Have a random stroll and you can feel the nostalgic mood.

the Beppu hells

It’s recorded in the “Bungo Fudoki” that the Kannawa & Kamegawa area has erupted with fumaroles, hot mud, and boiling water for over a thousand years; and it’s said to have been a forbidden zone no one dared go close. Since then, the area has been called “hell”.
